We'll have lots of sunshine through the day and temperatures will be rising nicely this afternoon towards seasonal levels. After a rather cool & breezy weekend, this will be a welcomed treat for all to enjoy on Long Island. Sadly, there is a concern with brushfires starting and/or spreading today with an elevated fire risk concern. This is mainly across Nassau County and northwestern Suffolk County. Due to dry vegetation, gusty winds, and low levels of humidity, there could be ideal conditions for fires to start or spread. Be mindful using anything with an open flame and fully put out cigarettes.

Gusty winds will linger into Tuesday as temperatures rise even more so than today. The day will be dry with temps rising even more so than for this day today. But there is a much-needed chance for rain to follow. A system will approach the region midweek, bringing rain chances for the second half of Wednesday and through much of the day on Thursday. Rain totals could range from 0.5 to 1.0" when all is said and done. Drier conditions move in overnight Thursday into Friday.

There will be another chance for rain on Saturday, but good news for your weekend plans to celebrate the mom in your life; fairer skies are expected for Mother's Day on Sunday.
