West Orange promotes first female police sergeant in township history
Four officers were promoted during a ceremony at Town Hall, including the department's first female sergeant.

The West Orange Police Department promoted four officers Tuesday, including the first woman to attain the rank of sergeant in the department's history.
During a promotion ceremony at West Orange Town Hall, Sgt. Sebastian de Leon was promoted to lieutenant, while officers Lawrence Dominguez, Noah Herskovitz and Karen Mango were promoted to sergeant.
Township officials said Mango's promotion marks the first time a woman has been promoted to sergeant in the history of the West Orange Police Department.
Mayor Susan McCartney administered the oath of office to the officers as family members stood beside them holding Bibles. Assemblywoman Rosy Bagolie also attended the ceremony and congratulated the newly promoted officers.
"With each promotion comes greater responsibility and the opportunity to lead by example," McCartney said. "By these promotions, I am assuring our township you will continue to serve with honor, compassion, and the highest standards of professionalism."
The township said the ceremony also marked another milestone, with McCartney, the first woman elected mayor of West Orange, administering the oath to Mango, the department's first female sergeant.
