West New York police officers rallied Wednesday against possible layoffs due to budget cuts of about $5 million.
Cops from around Hudson County marched from police headquarters to a nearby meeting of city commissioners to pressure leaders on the issue. A spokesperson for local officials says the city would like to agree with officers on a new health plan that costs less. Currently, the city pays about $29,000 for health benefits coverage for a single employee.
Without an agreement, 22 West New York officers will be laid off. The deadline is July 31.
