Police in West Milford are looking for the owner of a dog found dead in the woods.

Authorities say a male husky was found in the woods off Clinton Road by Schoolhouse Cove Road. They say the dog was wearing a black nylon tactical style collar and didn't have any identification tags. The dog was also not microchipped, and police say he doesn't belong to any shelters in the area.

The West Milford Animal Shelter Society is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the dog and its owner.

The dog's death is being investigated as a criminal matter. Anyone with information should contact the West Milford Police Department Detective Bureau at 973-728-2803 or email a.petrucelli@wmtpd.org.
