Tracking impacts from the northeaster and the strongest of which will be at the coastline in terms of winds 40 to 60 MPH, a windswept rain could be a couple inches of that rain and 2 to 4 ft inundation with a moderate to major coastal flooding at the Jersey shore. So definitely factor that in and stay away from the water's edge for the next couple of days inland, the impacts are less, but we're still going to be talking about some impact, maybe some scattered power outages, because still seeing those. Winds gusting, you know, upwards of 40 MPH could bring down some dry tree branches, uh, that have been lodged in place, uh, over the summer. So again, still talking about a chance of some scattered power outages and you notice where that heavy rain sets up, the closer you are to the coast, the heavier rain and the stronger the winds. Uh, so as to get inland, it's still not gonna be fun, but at the coastline could be dangerous in spots here along the coastline through Monday and through Monday evening as well until we get to Tuesday where things dissipate and we're just left with a good. Amount of clouds. How much rain to expect? Anywhere between 1 and 2 inches is likely. Maybe some locally higher amounts as you get closer to the Jersey shore. So a good soaking on the way and we're gonna be seeing again those winds, uh, on average over 40 MPH in spots, uh, slightly weaker as you get inland but still rather blustery and nasty day really on the way for Monday. That's the way to put it here, uh, with that rain and wind coming into the picture as we get into Tuesday. Wednesday in the 10 day we start to dry out. That's good news. And then highs will be back in the 50s for Thursday maybe Friday as well, but just struggling to get into the low 60s overnight lows in the 40s, but definitely the next couple of days again we are in storm watch here for noreaster pushing on in rain, wind and moderate to major coastal flooding along the New Jersey shoreline. As you said, gusting to 50 MPH on the barrier islands, the first of several storm high tides now reaching the beaches as well. News 12 Jim Murdoch live near Pier Village in Long Branch this afternoon, where conditions as we see in here, Jim, going downhill fast. I like to say it's all come unglued here at the Jersey Shore. We're less than an hour away from the first of three storm high tide cycles. I can walk a little bit closer here. You can see how high the water's come up already, but this is what we're talking about. We don't have much wiggle room here on this beach in Long Branch before the waves will reach the dunes, and some beaches in Monmouth County, we're talking about Avon and Belmar are not protected by any dunes, so we're extreme. concerned about the midnight high tide and then the 1 to 2 p.m. high tide tomorrow. Sabrina, if you could just pan down the beach, you can see the sand getting just windswept, sustained winds probably here between 20 and 30 MPH. We have had gusts overnight into the early morning hours on Long Beach Island, 50 MPH, and you can feel those gusts come in. They want to kind of knock you off your feet a little bit, not too too bad here, but You're looking at these wave heights probably running about 5 or 6 ft. These wave heights will be at least doubled by tomorrow morning with this constant fetch of east to northeast winds. Now earlier today we stopped by the Ocean port location right by Monmouth Park where JCP&L has set up a command station. They have 2500 additional crews standing by and you can see the. Transformers lined up there, all sorts of electronic devices ready to go in case these powerful winds knock out power. I heard of one issue in Wall Township earlier, a transformer was lost in the northern part of Wall Township. Chris Hoenig, the spokesperson from JCP&L, spoke with us. He says they're ready. They're ready to go, whatever the storm may bring. Let's hear what he had to say from the command center in Oceanport just a few minutes ago. Watch. So so far we've been able to manage any outages that come in. We are prepared for anything else that may happen. So we're expecting these winds to really peak overnight, continue throughout the day tomorrow, gonna be a lot of rain, chance for trees to come down because of that nice soggy ground and a lot of wind, but we're ready to respond. As bad as this looks, we are extremely concerned about the Barnet Bay, the Back Bay flooding, especially the overnight into tomorrow's high tide. This wind will keep the water in those back bays, and that will cause serious concerns along the eastern shore of the mainland and the western part of. Long Beach Island. In fact, Hurricane Erin just a couple of weeks ago, it was sunny out. That was hundreds of miles offshore. I was down there. Roads were 2 to 3 ft covered by water. We're expecting a major flood happening on that 2nd and 3rd high tide cycles for those back bays. Here once again we'll show you one last look at the waterfront waves 4 to 6 ft. We expect them to double in size as we go into later on this evening and into tonight. It's still coming up again. We're not even at high tide as I lost one of my earpieces here, but the rain is coming down. The storm is here. It's only going to get worse. We'll stay with you, uh, folks reporting from the beaches in Monmouth the Northern Ocean counties as the conditions will go downhill from here on out. Acting Gov. Way declares state of emergency for NJ ahead of coastal storm

Threat of erosion, rain, flooding. Acting Governor Thawe announcing a state of emergency will go into effect ahead of the nor'easter. That'll take effect at 10 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday night. She's also coordinating with the state police, the power companies, and other agencies as the storm approaches and has this message for you if you're planning to travel. I just want um everyone to be cautious and safe out there of course if you don't need to travel on Sunday if you're in the midst of the storm especially please do not and if you are out there because you. have to be there, please drive cautiously. There's um you can go to our ready.n.gov, our official state channels including at govMurphy on X for the latest timely information.

Jersey Shore braces for nor'easter Sunday into Monday

Preparations are underway along the Jersey Jersey shore for the strong winds, coastal flooding, and heavy rains. Jim Murdoch spending the day traveling between Ocean and Monmouth counties where there are several big activities this weekend. Some events have already been postponed. Jim, what's the situation out there in Belmar? Good evening Eric. Yeah, we're staying here in Belmar because it's one of the towns that county officials will be keeping a close eye on during the evolution of the storm because folks think back a few weeks ago when Hurricane Erin was spinning several 100 miles offshore. Well, the ocean waves nearly breached the boardwalk, sending. Into the streets and some of the beaches became significantly shorter. So with tide gauges showing a moderate to close to major flood stage by Sunday night into Monday, the Monmouth County sheriff is making sure low lying areas like here in Belmar are prepared. A busy Friday afternoon for OEM staff as they load hundreds of sandbags along Seabright Beach. Although the water seems calm, that will change. Waves of 10 ft or higher are expected to build Sunday along with heavy rains and increasing winds. We're looking at probably winds of 40 to 50 miles an hour and then obviously some coastal flooding. that we are really concerned about drone 12 flew over Belmar Beach Friday morning showing just how vulnerable this area is to potential storm surge where there are no protective dunes on beaches already battered this fall. Now here behind me in Seabright, we're doing some sandbag preparation and deployment. Our emergency management team secured hundreds of sandbags that we're filling and we're, uh, dispersed into local emergency management teams in those flood prone areas like Seabright. Further south in Seaside Heights, it's full speed ahead with the setup for the 34th annual Italian Festival and Columbus Day parade set to take place now through Sunday, weather permitting, with coastal flood and high wind watches already hoisted for the entire Jersey Shore. parade could be moved back a week. A decision will be made Saturday morning. So much goes into this. You just can't turn a faucet and change everything. The performers from Italy, they're going home on Thursday. They won't be here next Sunday if we have to move it to that. Some of the bands, the high school bands, have other commitments. And forget about that announcement tomorrow morning. We just heard from the committee chairman Michael, who you just heard from there in that taped piece. So that parade scheduled for Sunday along with the festival on day 3 has now been postponed to next Sunday. The festival and the parade Sunday, day 3 only, moved to next Sunday. Tonight's activities, tomorrow's activities. Still on as scheduled. A couple other postponements to tell you about before we wrap it up here. The Matasquaan inlet tug of war Sunday that has been postponed and next Saturday we'd be standing in a couple of feet of water if that was happening on Sunday. Also, the Point Pleasant Beach Fall fireworks show also moved to next Saturday. That's the latest here in Belmar. We're live this evening in Monmouth County. I'm Jim Murdoch, News 12, New Jersey.
