Gov. Murphy said Tuesday visitors to the state from California, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada and Tennessee should self-quarantine for two weeks and should isolate at their homes or hotels, only leaving for medical care, or essential items.
The states join Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Utah, which were announced last week.
Details on how it will be enforced are limited, especially since the self-quarantine is voluntary, with the advisory saying compliance is "expected."
Billboards are up along roads to inform visitors, and hotels are spreading the message during booking and check in.
"So, if you're coming to New Jersey from one of these states, we urge your compliance, and we also urge you to get a COVID-19 test while you are here to ensure your health and safety and that of those around you."
The governor says anyone coming from a heavily impacted state should take a COVID-19 test. He also says those who get tested should still quarantine for 14 days, no matter what the results.
New York and Connecticut also hold the same travel advisory.
