A wayward deer just couldn’t let go of the summer and made its way to the Ortley Beach section of Toms River Wednesday morning.
The deer found its way into and out of the ocean as it dodged waves and walked along the beach.
Toms River police say that they have spent the better part of the day trying to coax the deer to leave the area, but it would not leave.
Police marine units were also sailing near the deer to make sure it didn’t go out too deep.
An animal experts tells News 12 New Jersey that deer typically make their way to lakes, ponds and steams during rutting season, while trying to find a mate. But the expert said that this is the first time she has heard of a deer making its way into the ocean.
It was not immediately known if the deer was injured or sick in any way.
