Wawa will pay $8 million in a settlement over a 2019 data breach.
New Jersey is co-leading the lawsuit filed after hackers were able to collect credit card numbers used in Wawa stores.
The breach impacted transactions that took place between April 18 and Dec. 12 in 2019 and affected customers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Officials say the hackers deployed malware into Wawa’s computer systems. The malware was then opened by a Wawa employee.
Wawa has agreed to strengthen its cybersecurity.
