Cold temperatures are once again putting a strain on the state’s infrastructure as multiple water main breaks have been reported from in Passaic, Ocean and Bergen counties.
There is a giant hole in the middle of the road due to a large water main break in Moonachie, Bergen County. Water is still being pumped out at the intersection at Carol Place. Homes in the area do not have water. Moonachie police and Veolia Water were on the scene Tuesday morning.
Veolia Water determined this repair will require Moonachie Road (CR-503) to be closed well beyond the morning rush hour. There will be no traffic allowed on Moonachie Road between Joseph Street and Edstan Drive. Detours are in place.
According to 511, three major roads in Passaic County are dealing with water main breaks Tuesday morning on Ridge Avenue, off Passaic Avenue.
On Mantoloking Road in Brick, all lanes are closed from Church Drive to Greenwood Lane.
There is one lane blocked off Route 35 southbound and south of Navesink River Road in Middletown.
All lanes are closed near downtown, from Newton on Route 94 northbound or High Street and West End Avenue.
Several water main breaks also happened Monday and over the weekend. Water companies say this is the time of year when the freezing cold and thawing contributes to the breaks.
