A Warren County mother says that she wanted to do her part to help her neighbors who lost power during a snowstorm.
Washington Township resident Jamie Everett says that she lost power for six hours during last Friday’s nor’easter. But her neighbors lost power for five days.
“Just seeing everybody suffering, it was like, ‘What can I do?” Everett says.
Everett says that she decided to cook up a meal of spaghetti, Italian bread and brownies for dessert and serve it for her neighbors.
“Whoever I knew didn’t have power was getting food that night,” she says.
Neighbor Bob Banka heard she was offering and came by for the meal.
“It was the kindness of others that got us all through who didn’t have power,” Banka says.
Banka says that he spend five cold nights wrapped in blankets, so a hot meal went a long way.
Everett also allowed people into her home to charge their phones.
“Just a nice need trying to help people, to put a smile on their face,” she says. “Hoping one day if I’m in need someone will help me.”
Ironically, all of Everett’s neighbors regained power Wednesday night, just as a second nor’easter struck the state. Over 300,000 other New Jersey residents lost power during that storm.
