The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for the man they say left a dog inside a cage to drown in the ocean.
The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Long Branch resident Aaron Davis.
Officials say that Davis left the pit bull, now named River, inside a wire cage near the ocean early in the morning before high tide.
A woman walking with her own dog found River in the cage and rescued him before he was washed away. That woman is now fostering the pit bull.
Anyone who may have information about Davis is asked to call the Monmouth County SPCA hotline at 877-898-7297 or Highlands police at 732-872-1224.
