Among the reported victims of the deadly air collision between American Airlines Flight 5342 and an Army Black Hawk helicopter are figure skaters who have ties to the Ice House of New Jersey – an elite skating facility in Hackensack.

The staff at the facility tells News 12 New Jersey that they are very familiar with the figure skaters who were killed in the crash. Ice House director Craig Maurizi said that two of the victims were scheduled to come to the facility next week for training.

Maurizi says that some of the coaches who work there could not bear to show up on Thursday out of grief.

The nation is still waiting on more details about who was on board the flight. But staff tell News 12 that the figure skaters they knew were all under the age of 18.

"It still is surreal that something so dramatic and unusual would happen to people that I know,” says Maurizi. Maurizi says that it is likely that those on board were training for the 2030 Olympics.

The skating community has been sharing their condolences for the families of those who lost their lives.

Elite figure skaters are known to travel to train or compete in facilities all over the world.

The names of the victims have not been formally released.
