A New York State Police trooper is in stable condition after being shot on Long Island just before midnight.
Police said the suspect, believed to be a dark skinned male, fled in a black sedan, possibly a Dodge Charger, with a New Jersey temporary plate 997636T. The vehicle is further described as having custom matte gray dual exhaust tips.
Officials are asking for the public's help locating the vehicle and suspect.
It's still unclear what led up to the shooting.
Police said the trooper, who has not been identified, is in stable condition.
