A Passaic man accused of practicing medicine without a New York license is now facing a murder charge in the death of a woman at a Bronx wellness center.
Prosecutors say 56-year-old Luis Rojas Cabrera, founder of the Bereshit Lifestyle Center in Kingsbridge, was formally charged by a grand jury with murder, manslaughter and other offenses. Authorities allege 27-year-old Elizabeth Baron died after an IV treatment at the center on July 19.
According to the indictment, Rojas Cabrera introduced air into an intravenous line, causing a fatal air embolism. Prosecutors say Baron lost consciousness during the procedure and died about an hour later.
Investigators say Rojas Cabrera admitted he was not licensed to practice medicine in New York. He is due back in court on Oct. 27.
