Some North Jersey towns are putting out reminders about coyotes after recent sightings and incidents.

Yes, coyotes do live in New Jersey, and sightings are not uncommon.

North Haledon Police are sending out a reminder because there were two recent, separate incidents involving dogs in the area of Tamboer Drive.

They say both dogs are safe. But this is prompting some reminders and tips to protect pets.

They say to keep dogs on leash when walking and don't let them roam unattended, especially at dawn and dusk.

Keep cats inside when possible.

Remove outdoor pet food and bird seed, and make sure garbage is secured as well.

Last weekend, the Glen Rock Police Department said there were two coyote sightings in the Dunham Place area and the wooded section behind Faber Field.

Coyotes can be found in any neighborhood, so if you encounter a coyote, make yourself big and loud, and slowly back away while maintaining eye contact.

If it's aggressive, police ask you to report the incident to them.
