Travelers who are fed up with the long security lines at Newark Liberty International Airport may soon find relief.
The Transportation Security Administration, along with U.S. Sens. Bob Menendez and Cory Booker, announced Monday that the airport would be adding more than 100 security agents by June.
Twenty-five agents have already started and another 95 will be hired shortly, for a total of 120 additional security agents.
"People are sick and tired of waiting and we can do better," says Sen. Menendez.
In addition to the officers, more K-9 units are coming, and overtime hours for the agents will also be added as travel demand increases.
The TSA also wants to open a precheck center in Terminal C so travelers who enroll can be processed more quickly.
Sen. Menendez says he is also lobbying airlines to suspend checked baggage fees for the summer to help reduce congestion at security checkpoints.
