A large truck fire shut down a portion of Interstate-287 in Bergen County Thursday, causing major traffic delays during the evening commute.
The Target tractor-trailer caught on fire while traveling southbound near exit 58 in Oakland Thursday afternoon. The driver was able to safely get out and no one else was hurt, according to state police.
The fire caused all lanes on I-287 South to be shut down in the area. Traffic was open to the left lane only by Thursday night, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
The state police warn that motorists should use an alternate route and allow extra travel time. They say that they expected delays to last a while.
