Opening arguments began Wednesday in the trial of a man accused of providing a gun that was used in a shooting on the Florham Park campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University.

The incident occurred during a party on the FDU campus in April 2004. Prosecutors say Steven Wright gave the gun to his friend Rasheed Cooper. Authorities say Cooper used the gun to shoot a man at the party. According to prosecutors, Wright took the gun after the shooting and hid it in his car.

Prosecutors say the gun was never found, but argue witnesses and police testimony will prove Wright aided Cooper in the shooting.

Wright?s lawyer says there is no hard evidence against his client without the gun. He also says there is no evidence his client ever had a gun.

Jurors watched video of the shooting and listened to audio tapes of Wright talking to police. During the trial, they will also hear from various witnesses.

Meanwhile, Cooper has already pleaded guilty to the shooting.
