The Trenton Ironhawks introduced "Hawkey" as the professional hockey team's official mascot Wednesday during an employee rally at Capital Health ahead of the club's inaugural ECHL season.

"Hawkey represents the strength, courage and determination that defines our hockey team," team president Bob Ohrablo said. "With a fearless approach, Hawkey embodies the hard work, resilience, and pride that have long been associated with the state of New Jersey."

The Ironhawks said Hawkey will appear at home games at CURE Insurance Arena and make community appearances throughout Mercer County and the surrounding region. Capital Health will serve as the mascot's presenting sponsor.

"Today's mascot unveiling brings us one step closer to an exciting opportunity for Mercer County families to enjoy professional ice hockey," Capital Health president and CEO Al Maghazehe said. "This investment in Trenton is one more example of revitalization efforts in our capital city, and Capital Health is proud to be a part of it."

The Ironhawks, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders, will make their home debut Oct. 24 against the Adirondack Thunder at CURE Insurance Arena.
