Trenton Ironhawks sign 5 NJ natives ahead of inaugural season
The first five signings in franchise history include four New Jersey natives and a former Princeton University player.

The Trenton Ironhawks have announced the first five player signings in franchise history, all New Jersey natives, as the professional hockey team prepares for its inaugural season.
Gov. Mikie Sherrill and Mercer County Executive Dan Benson joined the ECHL team Thursday at the New Jersey State House as the Ironhawks announced the signings of Luke Antonacci of Princeton, John Gelatt of Middletown, Anthony Firriolo of Towaco, Mikey Colella of Turnersville and Nick Carabin of Mahwah.
The Ironhawks are scheduled to play their first home game Oct. 24 at CURE Insurance Arena against the Adirondack Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils.
"Today's signing reflects the Ironhawks' commitment to be a truly local team that embodies our community, and strengthens our Capital City, Mercer County, and our region," Benson said.
Ironhawks President Bob Ohrablo said having New Jersey players was a priority for the new team.
"When we created the Ironhawks, we knew we wanted to have a strong Jersey flavor to this team, and with the five new members being introduced today, we're excited to have accomplished that," Ohrablo said.
The five players bring professional and NCAA experience to Trenton. Antonacci, Gelatt and Colella played for the Utah Grizzlies last season, while Firriolo split the season between the Atlanta Gladiators and Iowa Heartlanders. Carabin played for the Cincinnati Cyclones and Iowa Heartlanders.
The Ironhawks will begin their inaugural season in October. The team is the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Hamilton Hammers.
