A Trenton neighborhood is devising a program to ward off bullies after parents reported that their children were attacked on the way to and from school.
Following incidents in the streets around Grace Dunn Middle School, the community is creating a safe corridor for students to walk. Part of the safety plan includes asking businesses to become safe havens that students can run to for help. Many business owners say they would be happy to sign up to help protect children.
The district would also like to put parent volunteers on corners to keep an eye out for problems. ?Sometimes all it takes is an adult figure to stop an incident,? said the principal of Grace Dunn Middle School.
School security guards and police patrol the area, but parents claim the students were still attacked.
The Trenton School District is working on getting a grant through the state?s ?Safe Routes to School Program.?
