Trenton Board of Ed to rename schools named for Columbus, Wilson
The Trenton Board of Education has formed a committee to move forward on the renaming of two schools named for Christopher Columbus and Woodrow Wilson.
A community forum will be held on Monday, March 14 at 6 p.m. for members of the public to submit their recommendations for renaming Columbus Elementary School and Wilson Elementary School.
Schools across the country have been renaming schools and buildings named for Columbus and Wilson due to the two men’s connections to racism and other negative aspects of American history.
Trenton residents can download the school renaming forms at the district’s website.
School officials say that once all the name submissions have been received, the committee will select at least three to be presented to the entire school board at the April meeting. Once the names have been approved, they will take effect in July.
