An early-morning fire in Trenton sent a firefighter to the hospital and left a mother and her two young children without a home.
The fire started in a vacant apartment on Oak Street and then spread to the apartment next door where the family lived.
The main building was just scorched, but the roof of the apartment where the family lived collapsed. That apartment is a total loss, according to officials.
“The firefighters did a phenomenal job. I can’t state enough the job they did because considering the amount of homes we have attached to right here,” said Trenton Fire Department Deputy Chief Gus Takacs. “Tough area for us, tight streets. Access can be tough at times. Access to the rear of the buildings can be very difficult at times, but the firefighters did a phenomenal job.”
It was not clear how the fire started.
The American Red Cross was on the scene to help the family that was displaced.
