With a record crowd of 60,000 expected to attend Sunday's Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, officials say they expect normal routes to and from the track to be heavily burdened with traffic.
Route 36 is expected to be packed with possible lane closures, one-way traffic and detours, police say. Alternate routes through Tinton Falls may be a better choice, even with traffic to and from the shore.
Oceanport police will bring in help from neighboring agencies to help manage the traffic over the weekend.
News 12 previously reported that NJ Transit will increase its service this weekend to accommodate racing fans.
Some NJ Transit stations have free parking on Sundays, officials say.
