Tracking Monday snow chances for New Jersey
The first winter storm of the new year will cross the country early next week. Current trends still have the bulk of this storm south of New Jersey, but there's a growing potential for accumulating snow on Monday.
Snowflakes Friday
Ahead of this storm, a brief burst of snow is possible for the Friday evening commute between 4 and 8 p.m. This is a weak disturbance, with total snow accumulations generally under an inch, however 1-2" of snow can't be ruled out in bigger snow bursts. The biggest threat with this disturbance is reduced visibility during the evening rush hour over Central Jersey.
Next week
On Sunday and Monday a major winter storm will cross the county, but as of right now, New Jersey is on the northern edge of it. Sunday is dry for us. The best chance for snow will actually be in South Jersey on Monday, but bigger snow totals toward the Delmarva. There are still several days to track the storm, but residents particularly in Central and South Jersey should continue to tune in for new details.
Beyond Monday, cold and dry air lingers from Canada. No major snowstorms are in the forecast, and although it will be colder than usual, we are not expecting historic cold here. The core of the cold air mass next week will actually be over the Midwest and Southeast. Historic cold is possible in those spots.
