One of the most memorable sports stories of 2017 was the closing of St. Anthony’s High School in Jersey City.
President of the school and basketball Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley announced on April 5 that the school would close due to financial issues.
Under Hurley’s leadership, the school achieved 28 state titles and thousands of wins.
“You try to teach the kids to fight for themselves,” said Hurley. “We have a lot of people now that influence kids to just look for the easiest way to do things – There’s no shortcut to success."
The legendary coach is continuing his basketball work through his nonprofit organization, the Hurley Family Foundation.
