An anonymous benefactor surprised some emergency responders in Ocean County by paying their breakfast tab with a note saying "Thank you for all you do!"

Five Toms River First Aid Squad members had just finished eating Friday at a restaurant when they learned a woman had paid their $77 bill. The group had gone there after finishing an overnight shift.

“I was pretty much at a loss for words,” says Robert Tully. “I didn’t know what to say or how to act on it.”

The good Samaritan wanted to remain anonymous, but it was signed a “Recovering addict.” The rescue squad members say they've responded to all too many overdoses and other medical problems caused by addiction during their careers.

“Addiction is one of the nastiest diseases to watch anyone go through and everyone is so proud that you are taking steps to recover,” says squad member Keri Murphy.

The members believe that the kind stranger was a woman. They says that they want her to know that her kindness won’t be forgotten. They say that they wish to thank her in person.

“When people thank us like this, it just feels amazing,” says member Laurence Rosenberg.

The Toms River First Aid Squad is a volunteer squad.
