Kris Kolluri says he will remain president and CEO of NJ Transit under the incoming Mickie Sherrill administration and take on a second role as executive director of the NJ Turnpike Authority.
Kolluri says the dual role will focus on improving transportation and energy planning across the state. He expects to start the turnpike authority position on Feb. 9 if the board approves his appointment, he said in an interview with News 12.
NJ Transit has unveiled plans to develop agency-owned land for housing and other revenue sources, which Kolluri said could reduce the need for annual fare increases. He estimates the agency loses $90 million a year to fare evasion.
The new Portal Bridge is nearly ready, but Kolluri warns the transition could cause delays for up to four weeks.
He also advises commuters to work from home during eight FIFA World Cup matches this summer to avoid congestion.
