TikTok officials say that the app will go dark in the United States on Sunday unless the Biden administration “provides a definitive statement to satisfy the most critical service providers assuring non-enforcement.”

“The statements issued today by both the Biden White House and the Department of Justice have failed to provide the necessary clarity and assurance to the service providers that are integral to maintaining TikTok's availability to over 170 million Americans,” TikTok officials posted on the company’s X account.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday unanimously upheld the federal law banning the social media video app unless it is sold by its China-based parent company.

Federal lawmakers previously passed a bill to ban TikTok, arguing that its ties to China pose a risk to national security.

President Joe Biden said he would postpone enforcing the law by 36 hours so that President-elect Donald Trump could decide its status when he assumes office on Monday.
