A classic of the stage and screen is coming back to Broadway soon. Many love the music from "The Wiz" and remember it from the movie starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.
"The Wiz" was first a Broadway show that opened in 1974. Fifty years later, it will be revived on Broadway for the first time next spring. The cast, which includes singer Deborah Cox, started rehearsals this week for a national tour that will precede the Broadway opening. This is a retelling of the "Wizard of Oz" that won seven Tony Awards, including best musical.
Also, a play in New Jersey featuring two well-known TV stars has been extended so people have more time to see it.
In Long Branch, the world premiere of "A Tailor Near Me" has added an additional week at New Jersey Repertoire Company to its run since performances were selling out. It stars James Pickens Jr. (Dr. Webber from "Grey's Anatomy") and Richard Kind, who has been featured in many TV comedies, including “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Spin City.”
Kind plays a customer who comes into a tailor shop to have a pair of pants let out. He also needs a new suit for the funeral of a longtime friend who's expected to pass away soon. He and the tailor played by Pickens hit it off, but as much as Kind's character comes to want to make a new friend just as he's losing another, the tailor holds back because of a family matter he tries to keep private.
Performances for "A Tailor Near Me" now run through Sept. 3.
