Residents who use their driver’s license as picture identification when flying on a plane have to have a gold star in order to use it -- beginning in October 2020.
The gold star is part of the "Real ID" program – and means you meet federal regulations.
But there are a couple of important points.
If you have a license without the gold star, you can still use other approved identifications, such as a passport or military ID to fly.
New Jersey's Motor Vehicle Commission also has not yet said when the gold star licenses will be issued.
