The ‘Disneyland of Dairy’ – crews break ground on Stew Leonard’s store
Construction crews broke ground on a new location for a grocery store sometimes referred to as the “Disneyland of dairy stores.”
Stew Leonard’s Grocery Store is set to open this fall in the former Sears location at the Paramus Park Mall in Paramus.
The farm fresh food store will offer a cut-to-order butcher shop and in-house catering. It is expected to bring more than 350 new jobs to Paramus.
“One of the really interesting things is, in New Jersey, we are allowed to sell both wine and food,” says founder Stew Leonard. “I can come to Paramus and get a big tomahawk juicy ribeye steak and grab a bottle of a real nice California cabernet for dinner. Maybe I’ll throw a lobster in there too.”
U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez and Paramus Mayor Richard La Barbiera attended the groundbreaking.
Stew Leonard’s has six locations in Connecticut and New York.
