Less than half of Americans surveyed plan to travel this summer due to high costs, according to a Bankrate report.

The report highlighted key statistics:

  • 45% of respondents plan to travel this summer.

  • 39% plan at least one U.S. trip.

  • 15% plan international travel.

  • 65% cite affordability as the reason for not traveling.

  • 23% lack interest in traveling.

  • 15% worry about plane safety.

  • 70% say everyday expenses, including airfares and hotels, make travel unaffordable.

Travel trends remain similar to last year. “It’s been a progression for the last couple of years,” said Derin Lisi, a travel agent with Rope Drop Travel.

Lisi says some of her clients now book Disney trips every few years instead of annually.
