A Middlesex County woman says that she and her newborn baby are very lucky after she went into labor while all alone inside her home.
Melissa Dawson, of Dunellen, says that everything happened so fast that she did not have time to call 911 until after she gave birth.
“I’m trying to stop myself and I’m like, ‘No, this can’t be happening,” says Dawson.
Dawson went into labor Thursday night while her husband was out with their 2-year-old daughter.
“I called him. ‘Babe, where are you?’ He was like, ‘I’m in Orange, just dropping Savannah off now.’ ‘No, we need to go, we need to right now,’” says Dawson.
As Dawson’s husband raced back home, she stayed on the phone with him.
"’Babe I feel the body. The baby is coming, it's coming, it’s coming.’ Just like that she falls on the floor. I literally did no pushing. She worked her own way out,” says Dawson.
Dawson says that she thinks she was in labor for just about 90 seconds before the baby arrived. Luckily the baby was just fine.
“Hearing her cry. OK this part is over now and she’s OK,” Dawson says.
The sounds from the ordeal were captured on Dawson’s nanny camera.
Moments after she gave birth, first responders arrived. They had to kick down the door to get in. Dawson’s husband arrived shortly after.
“Congratulations man, sorry about the door,” a first responder is heard telling Dawson’s husband.
The mother and daughter were taken to the hospital to be checked out and were sent home two days later. Dawson says that she is still in awe.
“If we just step back and kind of look at things you'll realize that if you trust your body, your body will help you through the most amazing things like giving birth to a child,” she says.
The Dawsons named the new baby Bria Belle. The Dawsons named the new baby Bria Belle. Dawson says that the name Bria means strong and Belle means beautiful.
Dawson says that she was surprised how quickly she delivered this baby. She says that she was in labor for 43 hours with her first child.
