A man from Cleveland, Texas, was sentenced to prison for a hit-and-run crash that killed an Elizabeth man on the Garden State Parkway in 2022.
Police say Fornice Boatner, 33, struck and killed Felipe Santos, 31, and then left the scene. Santos’ body was found in a ditch next to the roadway on the parkway in Woodbridge.
Officials say Santos was walking northbound on the shoulder of the Garden State Parkway in the area of milepost 130.4 when he was struck by a 2007 silver Dodge Ram that fled the scene after the crash and continued traveling north.
Police say Boatner also recently made repairs to the vehicle to conceal the damage in the hit-and-run. He was found in Texas six days later where he was arrested at his residence, and he was extradited back to New Jersey for trial.
Boatner was charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash causing death and tampering with evidence. However, police say Boatner failed to appear at sentencing. He was apprehended on Nov. 2, charged with bail jumping and sentenced Tuesday to nine years in prison.
