Two Jersey City teens are facing charges after an accidental shooting injured an 11-year-old boy.
Officials say that the shooting happened Sunday afternoon inside an apartment on Dales Avenue in Jersey City. A 14-year-old and 15-year-old were allegedly playing with a handgun inside the apartment when it went off, striking the boy.
The boy was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center and is expected to be OK.
Officials say that the 15-year-old was charged with reckless aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a gun, while a 14-year-old boy was charged with obstruction and tampering with evidence. Both teens were released into the custody of their parents.
No charges have been filed against the adults, who were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting. It was not immediately clear who the gun belonged to or how the teens gained access to the gun.
