(AP) - Teen drivers in New Jersey won't need morepractice behind the wheel and their parents won't have to take acourse.

Gov. Chris Christie refused to sign into law a bill that aimedto make younger drivers safer.

The bill would have changed the state's graduated driver'slicense program to require novice drivers to receive moresupervised practice time. It would have extended the learner'spermit phase from six months to a year. They also would have tosubmit a log of at least 50 hours of supervised practice drivingbefore being issued a probationary license permitting them to driveunsupervised.

Their parents would have been required to take an online orin-person class.
