A 16-year-old has been charged in connection with a shooting that wounded a Paterson man in Prospect Park, the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office said Friday.

Police responded at about 3:29 p.m. Thursday to the area of Hopper Street and Fairview Avenue following reports of a shooting. Officers found a 20-year-old Paterson man suffering from a nonfatal gunshot wound. He was taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson for treatment.

Investigators determined the juvenile was responsible for the shooting, authorities said. The teen was charged with acts of juvenile delinquency that would constitute second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose if charged as an adult.

The case has been referred to the Passaic County Family Court.
