The Internal Revenue Service is giving New Jersey residents hit by the weekend nor?easter a break.
The IRS said it?s offering a 48-hour reprieve for those affected by the storm, many of whom were forced to flee their homes because of flooding, to file their taxes.
That means that instead of scrambling to file their taxes by midnight tonight, storm-ravaged residents have until midnight April 19.
This is the fourth time the IRS has moved its filing deadline due to natural disasters. Some say it shows the tax man does have a heart after all.
IRS officials say residents don?t have to be directly affected by the storm to take advantage of the two-day extension. They say if residents have a transportation issue due to the storm, they qualify.
Those affected residents who find that two days is not enough time to file their returns may file for a six-month extension. However, the IRS says that filing must be done by midnight on April 19.
