Police are searching for the suspect they say is tied to a number of burglaries in Sunset Park.
The NYPD says the male suspect entered Las Gardenias Supermarket on 5th Avenue on Oct. 16 and stole some merchandise and $20.
Employees at the store told News 12 the merchandise stolen was flowers.
The second burglary took place five days later, inside Ocean Eats on 4th Avenue, and the suspect got away with the cash register and $1,000.
Lifelong residents of Sunset Park say the two incidents are just the latest of issues they’ve seen impacting the neighborhood.
“I wasn't born in the 80s,” said one resident. “But people used to tell me, ‘Oh growing up in the 80s was ruthless.’ It kind of feels like that right now.”
Another resident says he knows first-hand how often this happens, since many of his friends are business owners in the community.
“They tell me all the time,” said Elvin. “Between the people stealing stuff and putting it in their pocket or being held up at gunpoint.”
Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call police.
