A judge has decided to continue holding a man behind bars who stands accused of taking part in a vehicle theft just eight days after being sentenced to probation for other criminal activity.
"If history were to repeat itself, I think there is a high risk that he would reoffend," said Judge Paul Escandon during a Thursday detention hearing.
The judge was referring to Unique Woodard, who police say was riding in a stolen BMW along with three others when they crashed, before running and hiding from law enforcement in Holmdel.
A fourth suspect stole another vehicle, before crashing on the parkway and escaping from police. A minor is also accused of participating in the crimes.
According to court documents, Woodard was arrested nearly two years ago in Middletown for similar crimes, and then again last December in Wayne.
