Now, this is a boss worth working for. An Essex County ice cream shop owner surprised his employee by buying him a car so that he could get to work.
The act of kindness was caught on video as Gelotti employee Aaron Brunert found out about the surprise.
“Last week my car just pretty much gave out. It was time. The engine went on me,” Brunert says.
The 22-year-old did not have a way to get to work and had to rely on taxis and Ubers.
“Every trip was about $20, to be honest with you. So two trips back and forth would be a $50 day in total, because obviously food as well,” he says.
This is where Gelotti owner Michael Guerriero comes in.
"I know how hard it is for kids to survive. I know how hard it is to make a living wage and whether he understood it or not, I knew more and I felt more of what he was going through that he could ever understand,” Guerriero says.
Guerriero says that he came across an ad on Facebook for a blue Hyundai Elantra. The sellers, after hearing about Brunert’s story, struck a deal with Guerriero to sell the car for $2,000 less than it was listed. They all then surprised Brunert with the new car.
“I was shaking and all when it did happen,” Brunert says.
Brunert says that he considers Guerriero to be like a brother to him after the act of kindness.
