The Summit Fire Department said goodbye to their old fire headquarters on Broad Street and unveiled their new one just a few blocks away during a ceremony and parade on Sunday.
The new state-of-the-art facility offers a decontamination area for firefighters, multiple training spaces, bigger bays for fire apparatus and rest spaces.
A traditional “backing-in” ceremony of an engine was also performed to christen the new fire house.
Officials say the new headquarters offer them a safer and healthy environment to better serve the community.
"The new facility is not just a building - it is a symbol of the safety, resilience and strength of this community...It will be the hub of readiness and rapid response, ensuring that no matter what emergencies arise, our firefighters are equipped to meet them head on," said FMBA No. 54 President Brian Tavis.
Fire officials say the project has been 13 years in the making.
