Those who wish to rent a summer home at the Jersey Shore are being urged to act quickly, as many of the homes are already spoken for.
"We are running lower on inventory, pushing prices up a little higher," says Alice Farr-Leonard, of Century 21 Schlossbach Realty in Belmar.
Farr-Leonard says some of the homes were knocked down after Sandy, leaving empty lots. Other properties are currently up for sale instead of simply to rent.
"We're selling more single-family dwellings and people are using them for second homes whether they use them full-time summer or not, it's out of the summer rental pool," says Farr-Leonard.
However, News 12 New Jersey is told demand for summer rentals at the Shore is still in high demand, causing some realtors to go door to door trying to convince homeowners to rent their homes out, even for a week or two.
Realtors tell News 12 New Jersey that they believe the harsh winter is fueling the strong summer rental market.
