The summer is ending, but thousands will head to Asbury Park this weekend for one last hurrah.
The Sea.Hear.Now music and surfing festival is expected to bring tens of thousands of people for the second-straight year. The festival will be headlined by New Jersey-based The Lumineers and Dave Matthews Band.
Dani Munoz came from Washington, D.C. to celebrate her birthday by seeing some of her favorite groups.
“It has all my favorite things, so surfing and some really great music,” she says. “I have a tattoo from one of the bands.”
The festival features two stages on the beach near Convention Hall and a third in Bradley Park. Officials say that they expected 35,000 people each day of the festival.
This is the last weekend of the summer and temperatures are expected to be in the 80s. Officials say that anyone coming to Asbury Park to enjoy the beach and boardwalk should be prepared for traffic and limited parking.
Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn says that the public should expect it to be similar to Fourth of July traffic -- “Which means you’re going to be driving around, looking for parking,” she says.
Quinn says that the city is urging people to take public transportation or be dropped off. There are numerous streets closed in the festival area. The beach will also be off limits north of Convention Hall. Only concert ticket holders will be allowed, as this is where the performances will take place.
“We've gotten…a couple of concerns from people worried about not being able to get on the north end of the beach and we're hopefully, maybe going to address that next year,” Quinn says.
The festival is sold out except for a few VIP tickets. It is open from 12 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
More information about the festival and what is and is not allowed in the venue can be found on the Sea.Hear.Now website.
