Hundreds of runners laced up their sneakers and hit the pavement in Hudson County for a shared purpose – standing against gun violence.
The annual Strides for Safety 5K, organized by County Executive Craig Guy, took over Linkin Park in Jersey City.
It started as a free event four years ago. Now, it hosts about 500 runners and walkers.
The race raises awareness against gun violence and shows support for local safety initiatives.
"I think everybody who participates and wants to participate has a voice or something to say about [gun violence],” said Gina Hulings, director of cultural and heritage affairs/tourism development.
