Rahway community members led a rally at City Hall Sunday following several days of protests around the country in response the death of George Floyd while in the custody of Minneapolis police.

Leaders of the protest say they're calling for change nationally and in their own city. They demand more transparency, changes in training for police, new guidelines on the use of lethal force and more minority representation in the police department.

"We have a number of issues going on in Rahway, or surrounding, that we could be Minneapolis overnight if we don't get in front of it if we don't make our voices heard," says Quanae Palmber Chambliss, of Rahway.

Protesters say rallies like these are the result of a culmination of injustices as they now take to the streets demanding change.

"Our main goal here is we just want unity with the police and for better practices and so they can better do their job and so people can feel safe," says Najah Allen, of Rahway.

Many participants in the rally told News 12 they heard of the event through Facebook and Twitter.

Protests were also planned Sunday in Atlantic City, Linden and Lambertville.
