State council to vote to extend emergency ban on flavored e-cigarettes

An emergency ban on flavored electronic cigarettes could be extended and expanded today.

The state's Public Health and Health Planning Council is set to vote on a plan to extend the emergency ban.

It could also be expanded to include menthol.

The ban came in response to thousands of vaping-related illnesses and dozens of deaths nationwide.

Critics said it's governmental overreach that will hurt small businesses and adult smokers trying to stop using traditional cigarettes.

The council approved the original ban in September, but a state appeals court blocked New York from enforcing it in October.
