Storms expected to bring damaging winds, heavy rain to New Jersey
New Jerseyans may need to be prepared for some damage and power outages Thursday night as strong winds and heavy rains move across the state.
Halloween started off rainy but warm, with high temperatures in the low- to mid-70s. Rainy conditions continued for most of the day, prompting some towns to move trick-or-treating to the weekend.
News 12 New Jersey Meteorologist Michele Powers says that conditions are expected to worsen as the night goes on. The National Weather Service has issued wind advisories for various areas of the state from 8 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday. Powers says that gusts could reach up to 50 mph.
Heavy rain is also expected during the nighttime and overnight hours, which could lead to some coastal flooding.
Damage from the winds and heavy rain is possible, along with power outages. The storm is expected to last through the overnight hours.
Friday will see mostly sunny skies with breezy conditions. Temperatures will be in the low-60s. Overnight lows will dip into the mid-30s.
The weekend will also see mostly sunny weather with temperatures in the mid-50s.
