People from across New Jersey gathered for an anti-violence summit in Somerset Saturday, weeks after the execution-style killings that claimed the lives of three Newark college students.
The Victory Over Violence summit brought New Jersey leaders and community members together to talk about what can be done to keep kids off the streets and in school. Young panelists shared ideas and suggestions for after school programs to do just that.
State Attorney General Anne Milgram said it is important for New Jersey to band together. "We cannot let the fear in our neighborhoods and in our state pull us down and stop us from doing what we all know we need to do and we all know is the right thing to do," she said.
Essex County Prosecutor Paula Dow said parents and neighbors have to take responsibility for fixing area violence.
Milgram also said she will unveil a comprehensive anti-crime plan to Gov. Corzine (D-NJ) in a few weeks.
